Discovery II
After experimenting with aerial views of other planets on Google Earth, I decided to make on an homage out of it. Hidden in this contemplative video are more or less apparent references to 2001: Space Odyssey. First, the filming of the monolith, this mysterious structure that could be manmade or not, linking also the plinth itself in which the film is showcased. Then, the classical music reference, referencing these majestic slow shots of space. Finally, a more fan focused one: the aerial filming of Area 51, where Kubrick supposedly shot the fake Moon landing.
Finally, as a way to emphasize the secrecy of the video, I decided to make private, showing it through a peephole in a plinth. The audience was attracted by the grandiose music to finally watch a tiny video of an infinitely big landscape.
