Dancing Royal Family
As my current research focused around the perception of faces, it came to my mind that the most famous face, especially in the UK, was Queen Elizabeth’s, as it is shown on all of UK’s and Commonwealth coins, banknotes and stamps.
From the concept of the Queen’s image, I free-associated it with the ABBA song Dancing Queen, from which I imagined a video of the Queen dancing on ABBA. As these images were not my own, I decided to modify it in order to create something that resembles my aesthetics. I mixed the royal family's faces to alien faces I had previously created and made them sing along Dancing Queen. This is my version of an alien ABBA royal family if aliens were to recreate the Royal Family and ABBA at the same time. This references the same concept that in my previous practice, where I only focused on the information given by the Voyager I and II Golden Disks, that were sent into space to give specific information about our planet.
As for the song itself, I found it interesting to work with such a popular one, so famous that it loses all reference and meaning. Mixed with the very famous but very referenced faces of the Royal Family, each viewer's perception of the work is unique.
